Woman killed in lorry collision

An elderly woman has been killed in a collision with a delivery lorry at a supermarket in Liscard.

The incident happened at the entrance to the Asda car park on Seaview Road, Liscard, on Saturday lunchtime.

The 88-year-old victim, who lived in the local area, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Merseyside Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The area has been cordoned off and vehicles are being stopped entering the car park.

A force spokesman said the woman was struck by the lorry at about 1220 GMT.

"Whilst the supermarket remains open, the car park is closed and this has led to some traffic congestion in the area," he added.

Anyone wanting to use the store is advised to park further away and approach on foot.

The car park is expected to remain closed until at least 1630 GMT.
